It’s probably pretty clear at this point that Puerto Rico is one of our favorite destinations to travel to for weddings and elopements. We have a Puerto Rico Travel Guide about all of the fun things we love to do on the island, and a page on our website dedicated to Puerto Rico Wedding Photography. Puerto Rico is a perfect place for a tropical wedding, and we’re so excited to share a romantic elopement inspiration shoot we did last time we were there.
The wonderful Ruthie Fonseca of Bodas del Encanto planned this shoot, and she was a dream to work with. As destination wedding photographers we work with a lot of planners but she did an incredible job. She coordinated with a group of amazing local vendors to put together a romantic pink and gold wedding inspiration shoot! It on Bodas del Encanto here, and you can read this blurb about what Ruthie had to say about the shoot below:
“If you are looking to elope in Puerto Rico, there is no better location than Old San Juan for your ceremony. With its old city charm and picturesque scenery, any corner would be perfect for an intimate vow exchange. To add a modern twist to the shoot, we decided to do the reception portion at the roof top lounge of The San Juan Water and Beach Club Hotel. Mist gave us the perfect backdrop for a sunset dinner. I love the combination of the historic sights of Old San Juan and the hip vibe of Isla Verde, creating the perfect combination for a Puerto Rico elopement.”
Our morning began at the San Juan Water & Beach Club Hotel, a chic, modern hotel with an incredible rooftop view. The day was gorgeous, with shining sunlight and a breeze in the palm trees. Makeup artist Yari Rey created a soft, coppery look for our model Alanis, and pinned back her dark hair into a romantic updo. While Alanis got ready, our groom model Keff had portraits done with Chris on the rooftop of the Water Club, with gorgeous blue water as a backdrop. The Water Club has so many tucked away corners that were perfect for detail shots, especially a few of the shoes! D’Royal Bride provided a gorgeous soft pink gown for Alanis, with intricate beading and tiny tulle flowers.
The ceremony inspiration was held in Old San Juan at Plazuela La Rogativa, which overlooks the gorgeous water. There’s something undeniably romantic about Old San Juan. The architecture is reminiscent of Venice, and the quaint, cotton candy colored houses made a beautiful backdrop for some photos of Alanis and Keff. There’s no shortage of amazing locations in Old San Juan, with bright colors and hidden gems around every corner.
Although Alanis and Keff are models, they’re also a couple, which made the entire inspiration shoot much more fun. There was quite a bit of teasing for poor Keff, and many jokes made about how they’re well prepared for their possible future wedding!
Intic created a stunning bouquet for Alanis and boutonniere for Keff, with pink flowers and lush greenery. I love the little detail of soft white feathers added in the bouquet too!
One of my favorite memories of the day was traveling between the ceremony and reception space. Alanis’ dress was so huge, full of tulle and beading, that we couldn’t all fit comfortably in the car. I ended up sitting on Chris’ lap and having to duck down under the seats any time we passed a cop on the winding cobbled streets of Old San Juan!
After the ceremony, we traveled back to the Water Club for their intimate rooftop reception. Intic created the reception decor as well as the flowers for the ceremony, and did an incredible job with the decor. Romantic, candle-filled lanterns with lace, pink flowers and lush greenery draped the reception space. The pink and soft red of the flowers brought out the pink hues in Alanis’s dress, and were perfect with the pink flowers atop the gold cake made by Delighted by Yare.
To end the evening, we took a few photos of Alanis and Keff above the rooftop pool at the Water & Beach Club, and even ventured down to the beach after sun set. The setting sun on the roof top created soft lilacs and lavenders in the sky. Finishing with a couple of portraits of Alanis and Keff on the beach was a perfect end to a completely magical day.
