Julia and Scott had their wedding at the Pavilion on Crystal Lake in Middletown, CT this Spring. It was so special to photograph the wedding of these two. Julia, Chris and I all attended the same middle school, and it was so fun to reconnect while they were wedding planning! We took their engagement photos, and it was so clear to see that Julia had found the perfect match in Scott. The joy they clearly feel while in each other’s company is so beautiful!
The week leading up to their wedding day was a typical dreary New England week, and even the morning of their wedding was gray and cloud filled. We were planning to have a day just like the one we had for their engagement photos in Old Lyme, but the clouds parted just before the ceremony for gorgeous blue skies and sunshine. The Pavilion on Crystal Lake is surrounded by incredible greenery and warm wood that are perfect for a New England wedding.
Julia wore a gorgeous ruffled gown from Kleinfeld’s, which she confided wasn’t anything like what she thought she would fall in love with. It looked absolutely amazing on her! One of my favorite details about what she wore that day was that instead of wearing shoes she chose to wear a pair of delicate lace wraps on her feet. They were so beautiful, and so perfectly Julia!
Julia and her girls got ready at the cabin at the Pavilion, and wore adorable matching robes in their wedding colors. It was such a cozy place to get ready, complete with a roaring fire in the living room. Their bouquets were filled with lilies, succulents, and lush greens. Their hair and makeup was done by Transcendent, and looked so incredible there may have been some tearing up when Julia revealed her final look to everyone.
Ok, I may have a thing for corset-back dresses because I wore one myself, but they also are SO much fun to photograph. All of Julia’s girls gathered around to help tie up the back of her dress, and even had a video on hand with directions just in case.
Scott and his guys had a relaxing morning getting ready at a nearby hotel – I just love the details he chose to wear, especially those amazing cuff links!
Julia and Scott chose to have a first look, right under the beautiful archway that lead to their ceremony space. There was so much excitement in the air as Julia made the walk from the cabin to where Scott waited. The joy in Scott’s eyes when he sees her is just so wonderful!
We were so amazed how the weather turned out for this day! Shortly before the ceremony the blue sky shone through, and guests enjoyed the breeze coming off the lake as they waited for the ceremony to begin. The Pavilion at Crystal Lake has an outdoor space set up for ceremonies, complete with rustic wooden pews and a gazebo. Flowers and succulents in mason jars adorned the walkway up to the ceremony space. Their ceremony included touching heartfelt vows, and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house!
After their ceremony we spent some time enjoying the sunshine with just Julia and Scott. Their easy laughter was flowing as they enjoyed their first moments together as husband and wife.
One of the things Chris and I originally bonded with Julia and Scott over was their love for travel. They have truly adventurous souls, and we’ve been totally stalking their travels on Facebook since they left for their honeymoon! They were scuba instructors in St Thomas together, and I love that their cake topper pays homage to their time together there. They had little details throughout their reception that showed their love for travel, including a globe for guests to sign as their guest book. The incredible cupcake tower was provided by NoRA Cupcakes, and flowers by Kathy Mock Florist. The glowing tea lights looked amazing with the string lights hung across the ceiling and rustic wood walls at the Pavilion on Crystal Lake.
Julia and Scott’s first dance was to Peter Gabriel’s Book of Love, and guys, it was so incredible. Their entire wedding was filled with joy and emotion, and it was clear that not only Julia and Scott were feeling it but their guests as well. I teared up a little bit (Chris will laugh when he reads this because he knows I was actually crying) while photographing this first dance, and I wasn’t the only one.
It couldn’t have been more clear how much love and support their friends and family have for Julia and Scott. The Best Man Tim and Maid of Honor Franni gave beautiful toasts before dinner was served. The food at Pavilion on Crystal Lake is all farm to table, and changes seasonally.
Scott, Julia, and their guests delivered on some awesome dancing! Everyone was eager to jump on the dance floor and start the celebration. After the parent dances, almost all of the guests were out of their seats and on the dance floor.
During the dancing we snuck back outside at sunset for a few more photos with Julia and Scott. These two adventurous souls are now traveling the world together. Congratulations guys!
