Ricky and Megan were married at the Riverview in Simsbury, CT this March. When they first reached out to us about being their wedding photographers, Chris and I were so excited. Not only are they an incredible couple, but Chris and I were married at the Riverview over three years ago! We were so excited to be back in the place we were married photographing another couple in love on their wedding day.
We had already worked with Ricky and Megan for their engagement photos (which were featured on Outre Bride, and you can check out here.) They were so comfortable and natural together for the engagement photos, they both have easy laughs and are into some of the nerdier things in life like Chris and I. So we knew their wedding day would be fun!
That morning Ricky and Megan got ready at the Simsbury Inn, a quaint quintessential New England hotel just down the street from The Riverview. Megan’s dress was incredible, with billowing layers of tulle that made her look like a fairytale princess. Her girls carried beautiful bouquets that she made herself using flowers from Trader Joe’s!
Megan’s hair and makeup were done at Genevieve Salon & Boutique and she looked absolutely stunning. Her dark lip color added some gorgeous drama to her classic look, and I was in love with the delicate straps on her gown.
Not every couple wants to do a first look, and these two didn’t want to see one another before their ceremony. Megan added a really cute touch to the day by having a first look with her Dad instead, who hadn’t seen her wedding gown before. I just loved his reaction and the look on his face when he saw her for the first time!
Ricky and Megan had a mixed bridal party, with guys and girls on each side of the aisle. The guys sported awesome argyle socks and blue/green Chucks, and the girls wore beautiful dresses in different hues of blue. We took most of the bridal party photos indoors, because in true CT fashion it was a cold Winter day in March!
Their ceremony was held inside at The Riverview, with the gorgeous ceiling high windows as a backdrop. One of my favorite things about The Riverview is the incredible gold and crystal chandeliers. They look stunning in person, and add beautiful sparkle in the background of photos. It was hard to stay composed during Ricky and Megan’s vows. It was clear that their friends and family were getting emotional, and their vows were so incredibly personal and genuine.
Megan, her Mom, and her Grandmother posed for this photo with all of their wedding bands after the ceremony. Megan wore bracelets (her something old and borrowed) worn by her Grandmother on her wedding day, tied together by a sapphire thread (her something blue!)
Lucky for Ricky and Megan, the Riverview has a gorgeous interior, so we only ventured outside for a few photos. If there wasn’t lingering snow in the background, you would almost think it was Spring!
I love the nerdy touches Ricky and Megan added to their wedding reception. Each table was a different fictional land (and they even included Pawnee, which made my day!) Instead of a wedding cake they opted for a cupcake tower, topped with little Link and Zelda figures instead of the classic bride and groom cake topper.
Ricky and Megan walked into their reception and straight into their first dance, sporting sunglasses and looking excited to get the party started! I had a feeling it would be a good night when these two came out with so much energy.
I love the parent dances, and Ricky and Megan had some awesome ones! It was so clear throughout their ceremony, toasts, and dances that their family and loved ones there that day were incredibly excited and ready to celebrate with Ricky and Megan. Part of the way through Megan’s first dance with her Dad, her Grandfather even cut in!
Anyone who knows Chris and I well knows we love to jump on the dance floor. If we’re guests at your wedding, it doesn’t matter if it’s a nighttime party with crazy uplighting or a daytime brunch affair. We’ll be on the dance floor! So we absolutely love receptions with guests that love to dance, and Ricky and Megan’s guests DELIVERED.
Congratulations, Ricky and Megan!
