Winter Elopement at City Hall Hartford CT

Katie and Andrew’s Intimate Hartford City Hall Wedding Ceremony

When Katie called me on a Sunday to see if we were available on Friday for her elopement at City Hall in Hartford, CT, I felt a few things. Extreme excitement because we were free that day, and awe…because this girl was legit pulling off planning her wedding in ONE WEEK. She and Andrew had decided that they wanted to avoid how overwhelming a typical wedding day can sometimes be, and have something perfectly intimate and “them”.  For these two, that meant a simple but heartfelt ceremony at City Hall in Hartford, followed by a small dinner with friends and family afterwards in Simsbury.

Somehow this girl found herself an absolutely stunning high-low wedding gown in under a week (color us impressed.) She paired it with a beautiful faux fur wrap, and a red and white bouquet made by Horan’s. Andrew wore a gray suit and red tie to match Katie’s flowers, and it was so perfect for a winter elopement, especially so close to Christmas!

There’s a reason City Hall in Hartford is one of my personal favorite places for a wedding ceremony. It sounds like such a simple location, but it’s one of the most beautifully lit ceremony spaces in CT. Natural light filters down from the huge skylights in the ceiling, and there’s gold gilding on a few surfaces that make it feel extra luxe. Everything is made from neutral marble and stone, and the high ceilings and twisting staircases are so elegant. It’s seriously a hidden gem of architecture right in the middle of Hartford!

Because it was the week before Christmas, all of City Hall was decorated with a huge Christmas tree and red flowers, which meant Katie and Andrew had a beautifully decorated space without having to get any of the materials themselves. Even when it’s not decorated, the space is so airy and bright it’s perfect for a wedding ceremony. Katie and Andrew had their ceremony with their parents and friend Steph there to support them. It was such a peaceful and special ceremony!

After the wedding ceremony, we spent some time inside and outside at City Hall. The staff at City Hall was so nice, and let them bring their amazing German Shepard rescue (Captain) in for a few photos! At this point you all know how much we love photographing dogs (and cats!), so you all know how excited we were to have Captain there.

Katie and Andrew were so sweet and excited that they had just gotten married, they seemed to hardly notice the cold when we went outside! The forecast that day had called for gloomy ice and sleet, but instead they had perfect light that was just a little overcast (with no sleet…thank goodness.) City Hall is just as pretty outside as it is inside, and we had to make sure we got some photos right at the entrance with it’s sweeping staircase and beautiful gold doors.

Congratulations Katie and Andrew! We were honored to be part of your wedding day.
