Hill-Stead Museum Wedding
Classic, Elegant New England Wedding at the Hill-Stead Museum
Katie and Brian’s Wedding at the Hill-Stead Museum
Katie and Brian were married at the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, CT on a gorgeous summer day. A Hill-Stead Museum wedding is classic New England affair. The venue has elegant architecture designed by female architect Theodate Pope. The Museum has a fascinating history, and is a Connecticut staple.
Katie and Brian told the story of how they met best, saying on their wedding website “Brian Paul Bourque and Catherine Anne Felicity Miervaldis met officially on the fateful morning of August 6, 2015…over sausages. They were at Jets training camp in Florham Park, NJ and Katie’s first action upon walking into the morning production meeting was to collect a plate full of sausages to eat as her breakfast. Brian noticed this bold move and admired her lack of concern for societal judgement. After not speaking for the majority of the day, NOT ONE person could have predicted they would eventually be married.” The rest goes down in history, as they say, and two years later these two got married!
That day, Brian was most looking forward to seeing Katie in her wedding dress, while Katie already had thoughts of their honeymoon to Hawaii dancing in her head the morning of their wedding! Katie wore a beautiful Watters wedding gown, her makeup done by Hope of YUMi Dollhouse Production and her hair by Beauty Entourage. Katie’s bridesmaids all wore maxi dresses from Lulus that could each be wrapped in a different way – I loved this take on mis-matched dresses!
Katie and Brian had a first look before their ceremony, in a private corner on the grounds at the museum. Friends and family watched from afar as they shared an excited and emotional greeting.
Often, people are nervous to do a first look before their ceremony, thinking that the moment itself may not be as special if they’ve already seen one another. This has been disproved over and over again at weddings, and Katie and Brian’s was no different! I absolutely love how emotional both of them get when they see one another at opposite ends of the aisle.
Their ceremony was held on the expansive lawn in front of the Hill-Stead Museum’s main building, with views of the New England countryside as their backdrop. My favorite photo is one that Chris captured, of Katie with a single tear running down her cheek – we have a similar photo from our wedding and it’s always been a favorite of mine!
During cocktail hour, guests could enjoy the beautiful Sunken Garden, or wander through the Hill-Stead Museum to see the various art on display. The museum has a beautiful impressionist collection, but no photos are allowed in the museum to better preserve the art, so you’ll have to visit yourself if you’d like to see!
I was surprised and pretty excited when their planner, Jenn Tansley of Soirees and Revelry, reached out to let us know Tina Fey was a guest at Katie and Brian’s wedding. Katie had worked with Tina on the set of 30 Rock, which Chris and I were insanely excited about, since it’s one of the shows we put on repeat while editing weddings! So, of course, we had to include a photo with Katie and Tina (and yes, episodes of 30 Rock were on in the background while editing these.)
Their reception was held in the Makeshift Theater, decorated beautifully with sweeping white drapes and fairy lights. Their centerpieces of lanterns and romantic lit candles were perfectly romantic for the intimate space.
Congratulations Katie and Brian!
